Edgewood, WA Home Burglarized, Infiniti SUV Stolen — Vehicle, Evidence Found, Suspect Arrested

While the owners of a 2005 Infiniti FX35 SUV were traveling in Arizona, they were notified that their residence in Edgewood had been burglarized. The thieves stole valuables and two vehicles, one of which was the LoJack-equipped Infiniti. The crimes were immediately reported to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, who completed a stolen vehicle report and entered the Infiniti’s VIN into the national crime computer (NCIC). This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than one hour later, Washington State Patrol troopers received the silent homing signal from the stolen Infiniti on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol car. The signal was tracked to the area of Third & James in Kent, where it was found abandoned in an alley behind a residence. It was still warm.
When questioned, the owners of the house first denied any knowledge of the vehicle, but quickly decided to let the troopers into the house. Another occupant in the house was detained and questioned. The troopers discovered the keys to the Infiniti behind a couch, and found evidence from the burglary on the suspect. He was arrested and booked into jail.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Infiniti SUV in January of 2011.
