Honda Accord Stolen by Ex-Boyfriend Recovered by Multiple WA Police Units, Suspect Identified

On the morning of April 5, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Honda Accord EX contacted the University Place Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. The owner stated that an ex-boyfriend had taken the vehicle without permission and refused to return it.
University Place officers completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Accord’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than twenty minutes later, detectives assigned to the Lakewood Auto Theft Task Force and a Pierce County Deputy received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Honda on the tracking computers installed in their patrol cars. Following the audio and visual cues on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer, they quickly located the Honda at a residence in the 6900 block of Tyler Street in Tacoma. The suspect was not with the vehicle, but his identity is known to the officers.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in February of 2004 when it was purchased as a used vehicle.
