Miami Beach Police Recover Stolen Ford Fusion One Hour After Theft Report with Help of LoJack

On Friday, March 16, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Ford Fusion 4-door sedan contacted the Miami Beach Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner of the Fusion, who advised that sometime between March 12 and March 16, someone had stolen the sedan from where it was parked. The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ford Fusion.
Approximately an hour after activation, a Miami Beach Police Department detective received the silent LoJack radio signal from the stolen Ford’s LoJack unit, and began tracking it by following the directional and signal strength cues on his patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer. Shortly thereafter, the detective, along with backup, located the vehicle, parked and abandoned in the 7300 block of Byron Avenue. The detective recovered the vehicle, had it towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed the VIN from the police crime computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford Fusion on March 21, 2011, and has been protecting it ever since.
