Miami Officers Alert Owner that Her Mazda-6 Was Involved in Crash, Quickly Recover Vehicle

On Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Mazda-6 4-door sedan contacted the Hallandale Beach Police Department to report their stolen. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner, who stated that her mother received a call at 9:00am from the Florida Highway Patrol that her vehicle was involved in a crash and had driven off.
The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mazda. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to initiate tracking of the vehicle, as LoJack’s interface with police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers with the North Miami Beach Police Department received the silent LoJack radio signal from the stolen Mazda’s LoJack unit. Following the directional and signal strength cues on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer, the officers, along with backup, located the Mazda near N.E. 156th Street and 18th Avenue. The vehicle was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from the police computer systems.
The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Police Recovery System was installed in this Mazda on December 1, 2011 and has been protecting it ever since.
