Dallas Police Recover Stolen Ford F250 Parked in Alleyway with Engine Hoist Nearby — Two Arrested

On March 14, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Ford F250 pickup reported the truck stolen to the Irving Police Department. After completing a stolen vehicle report, Irving officers had the Ford’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the pickup truck. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within hours, the Dallas Police helicopter picked up the Ford’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their pickup. Following the computer’s directional and audible signals, the officers tracked the pickup to an alleyway, where they observed it parked behind a house. Flight officers directed ground units to the alleyway, where officers discovered the pickup parked partially inside the fenced-in backyard of a house. An engine hoist was sitting beside the stolen pickup. Officers obtained a search warrant and discovered two suspects inside of the house. The suspects admitted placing the hoist next to the pickup, but claimed that they did not steal the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested; the investigation remains ongoing.
