New York State Parks Police Recover Stolen Yaris, Arrest 2 Suspects, in Poughkeepsie

On March 8, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Toyota Yaris discovered that her vehicle had been stolen from her residence after an estranged family member secretly took a set of keys from her. The owner immediately notified the Dutchess County Sheriffs Department of the theft.
After compiling a stolen vehicle report, the police entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers assigned to the New York State Parks in Putnam and Dutchess Counties, traveling in the town of Poughkeepsie, picked up the Toyota’s LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computer, the officers located the moving Toyota, with two suspects inside. They quickly notified the Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department of the vehicle’s location. The Toyota was immediately surrounded, and the suspects placed under arrest by the Dutchess County Sheriff. The undamaged vehicle was impounded as arrest evidence and was eventually released to an extremely happy owner.
