Nissan Frontier Stolen from French Quarter Recovered by New Orleans Police Minutes Later

On February 22, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Nissan Frontier parked his vehicle on the street outside of the French Quarter in New Orleans. When he returned for the vehicle, he discovered it missing, and upon checking the area, he realized it was stolen. He called and reported the theft to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
After gathering all of the pertinent information, NOPD officers entered the Nissan’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to prompt the activation of the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
21 minutes later, a NOPD officer received the silent homing signal from the stolen Nissan with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) in his patrol car. After querying the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system, the officer received both confirmation that the signals were coming from the stolen Nissan and a full description of the vehicle. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the officer tracked and located the Nissan, parked on a street in the Mid City area of New Orleans. The Frontier was recovered in good shape and impounded for safe keeping until the owner could be contacted.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Nissan Frontier at the owner’s request in May 2008.
