Lexus IS-350C Stolen from Atlanta Mall While Family Watched a Movie; Recovered, Abandoned, without Damage

On February 24, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Lexus IS-350C contacted the Atlanta Police Department to report that while he and his family were at the mall watching a movie, someone had stolen their car. Lucky for them, a LoJack unit was installed in the vehicle when it was purchased new at Hennessy Lexus.
Upon receiving notification of the theft, Atlanta Police had the Lexus’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicles. Neither the owner nor Law Enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the hidden transponder because LoJack’s interface with Law Enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, the transponder hidden inside the Lexus began to send out a silent LoJack signal to police cars in the area equipped with LoJack Tracking Computers. A Georgia State Patrol trooper picked up the signal on the computer in his vehicle, and following its directional and signal strength cues, tracked the stolen Lexus to a rural area of Fulton County. There, the trooper located the Lexus at an abandoned house. The vehicle was unoccupied and undamaged; the trooper assumed that the thieves must have left it there to cool off for a few days.
The owner was very glad to get his car back in great condition.
