Toyota RAV-4 Stolen During the Night from Hollywood Residence, Recovered Hours Later

On Tuesday morning, January 17, 2012, the owner of a 2004 Toyota RAV-4 sport utility vehicle contacted the Hollywood Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner who stated that their Toyota had been stolen from its parking space at some point during the previous night. The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal-state crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota RAV-4.
A few hours later, members of the Auto Theft Task Force received the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computer, the ATTF members located the RAV-4 in an apartment complex in the 21000 block of San Simeon Way. Because it was in Miami-Dade jurisdiction, the ATTF member requested that the Miami-Dade Police Department respond to recover the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered in good condition with ignition damage, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from federal-state crime computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota RAV-4 sport utility vehicle on October 2, 2004, and has been protecting it ever since.
