Freightliner Tractor Stolen in Medley Recovered, Undamaged, in Hialeah

On Wednesday morning, January 18, 2012, the operator of a 2000 Blue Freightliner tractor discovered the tractor missing from his storage yard. The owner of the equipment contacted the Medley Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding officer met with the owner of the equipment, who stated that during the previous night, someone had cut the lock on the chain attached to the gate of the storage yard and stolen the tractor from where it was parked. The officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the vehicle’s information entered into the federal and state crime computer databases. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the tractor.
Minutes later, officers with the Hialeah Gardens Police Department received the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Freightliner’s LoJack unit on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computer, the officers, along with backup, located the tractor in the 7900 block of N.W. 106th Street. The tractor was recovered with no apparent damage, released to the owner at the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Freightliner tractor on May 19, 2002, and has been protecting it ever since.
