Toyota Camry Stolen and Recovered in Queens; Acquaintance of Victim Arrested for Theft

On the afternoon of February 19, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Camry parked and locked her vehicle on the street where she lives in the Maspeth section of Queens, confines of the 104 precinct.. When she returned for it, she found the vehicle missing and immediately called the Police of the 104 precinct, NYPD. When the Police arrived they took a written report; this information was then entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the stolen Toyota. No further action was required by the owner of police in order to activate the LoJack system, as LoJack is seamlessly networked with the national police system.
A short while later, the Police of the 104th Precinct began to pick up the LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional signal on the computers, the officers tracked the Toyota to a residential area of Maspeth, where they observed the vehicle in motion. When they managed to catch up to the moving vehicle, they conducted a felony traffic stop, and quickly arrested the driver before he had a chance to flee.
Further investigation revealed that the victim knew the suspect; however, she had not authorized the suspect to use the vehicle, or have possession of the car’s keys. The Toyota was recovered with no damage, and the grateful owner was notified.
