Ford Pickup Stolen in Salt Lake , Recovered in Minutes Using a LoJack the Owners Didn't Know They Had

On February 25, 2012, the owners of a 2005 Ford F350 pickup parked the vehicle near their residence in Salt Lake City. Early the next morning, they returned for the vehicle and discovered it missing, and immediately contacted the Salt Lake City Police Department. After preparing a stolen vehicle report, the Salt Lake City Police entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the hidden LoJack transponder in the pickup. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because the LoJack interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within minutes, an officer with the Salt Lake City PD began picking up the silent signal from the stolen pickup with his LoJack-equipped patrol car. Following the onboard computer’s directional cues, the officer tracked and located the stolen pickup, abandoned near West Mead Avenue.
The Ford F350 was located only 36 minutes after being entered into the “Stolen Vehicle Recovery System”. The vehicle was later released to the owners, who had no idea that the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System had been installed by the truck’s previous owners back on May 5, 2005 in California.
