Baltimore City Police Helicopter Locates Stolen Honda Civic, Parked and Abandoned, Minutes After Theft

The owner of a 2012 Honda Civic LX contacted the Baltimore County Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from the 1000 block of Camberly Circle in Baltimore County, Maryland on February 23, 2012. The officer responded to the scene, and after conducting a preliminary investigation and obtaining all the vehicle’s information, completed a vehicle theft report. This information was then entered into the state and federal crime computer databases, a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, aviation officers assigned to the Baltimore City Police helicopter, “Foxtrot” received the silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their helicopter. Following the directional and audible signal of LoJack on the computer, the officers tracked the stolen Civic to the 3900 block of Pulaski Highway in Baltimore City. Detectives assigned to the Regional Auto Theft Team also responded and located the vehicle parked and unoccupied.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Civic at the new car buyer’s request in October, 2011.
