Anaheim PD Air Angel Helicopter Tracks Stolen Suzuki Motorcycle, Fleeing Suspect Arrested

On the evening of February 22, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Suzuki 650 parked and secured his motorcycle for the night. When he returned for the bike the following morning, he discovered it missing and contacted the Anaheim Police Department to report the theft. Anaheim Police initiated a stolen vehicle report and had the Suzuki’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases — a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack concealed inside the motorcycle.
Later that day, Anaheim Police Department helicopter Air-Angel was on patrol when the flight officers picked up the Suzuki’s silent LoJack code on their Police Tracking Computer (PTC) in their aircraft. After obtaining a description of the motorcycle, they continued to follow the directional signal on their PTC to the area of Lincoln and Olive. They then notified ground units that the suspect had noticed the airship overhead and abandoned the motorcycle, fleeing over a wall on the north side of Lincoln. Officers arrived in the area, observed the fleeing suspect and gave chase. The flight officers observed the suspect running into an apartment complex; ground units were were directed to the suspect and quickly took him into custody without further incident. The suspect was later booked for various felony charges.
The motorcycle was recovered and stored until it was released to the victim. The original owner of the Suzuki had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed at USA Motor Sports in September 2006.
