LoJack Aids in Recovery of Stolen Chevrolet Pickup Used to Traffic Illegal Immigrants

When the owners of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup discovered that their vehicle had been stolen on February 9, 2012, they immediately filed a theft report with the Houston Police Department. After all the pertinent information was gathered, Houston Police entered the Silverado’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to cause the activation of the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Two days later, on February 11, 2011, officers from the Houston Police Department received the silent homing signals from the stolen pickup on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. Following the directional and signal strength information onthe PTC, Houston officers were observed the pickup traveling outbound on U S 290 at 34th Street. When officers attempted to make traffic stop, the driver accelerated and drove away at a high speed, Houston officers were joined with officers from Jersey Village, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, and Texas Highway Patrol. The driver lost control at U S 290 and Hager Road, spinning into a ditch. Officers quickly arrested the driver and ten illegal immigrants in the pickup. The driver was charged with Felony Theft and Evading Arrest. All were taken downtown for processing. The vehicle was stored pending owner notification.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the original owner’s request in April 2006.
