Chevrolet Tahoe Stolen and Recovered in Queens by NYPD Using LoJack

On February 18, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe parked and locked his vehicle on the street where he lives in the Maspeth section of Queens, confines of the 104 precinct.. When he returned for it, he found the Tahoe missing and immediately called the NYPD to report the theft. When the Police arrived, they took a written report, and had this information entered into the New York and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed inside the stolen Tahoe — without any further action required by police or owner.
A short while later, the Police of the 104th Precinct, NYPD, began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tahoe on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional cues on the computer, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area of of the Maspeth section of Queens. There, they located the Tahoe, parked in a residential area. They staked out the Tahoe for a short while, but when no one returned for it, they took the undamaged vehicle into custody. The owner was notified and was elated to know that his vehicle was recovered so quickly, especially with no damage.
