Salt Lake City Police Recover Stolen Honda Accord Minutes After Theft is Reported

The owners of a 1997 Honda Accord last saw their vehicle on February 8, 2012, parked in Salt Lake City. Later that day, they discovered that the car had been stolen and immediately contacted the Salt Lake City Police to report the theft.
After verifying the crime, the Salt Lake Police entered the stolen Honda’s information into the Utah and federal stolen vehicle computer database. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda Accord. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because the LoJack interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within minutes, an officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda in his LoJack-equipped patrol car, and radioed for assistance. Two officers quickly located the vehicle, hastily abandoned by the suspect(s), but still intact.
The Honda Accord was recovered only 32 minutes after being entered into the stolen vehicle database system. The vehicle was later released back to the grateful car owners, who were fortunate that the car’s previous owners had the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System installed 14 years earlier, on September 6, 1997.
