One LoJack Recovery Nets Two Stolen Pickups at a Motel in San Antonio

When the owners of a 2007 Ford F350 pickup discovered that their vehicle had been stolen on February 16, 2012, they immediately filed a theft report with the San Antonio Police Department. After gathering all pertinent information, San Antonio Police entered the Ford’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to cause the activation of the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Just over an hour later, officers from the San Antonio Department received the silent homing signals from the stolen Ford on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars. The officers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received positive confirmation that the signals were coming from the stolen Ford F350 pickup. Following the computer cues, the officers located the pickup, parked and abandoned at a motel in the 2900 block of East Commerce. Officers set up surveillance; after a while, when no one returned to the vehicle, the officers recovered and processed the pickup for evidence. Another stolen 2007 Ford F250 pickup was also recovered at the same location. Officers concluded that the thieves were using the motel as a staging area to hide the stolen pickups.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the original owner’s request in December 2006.
