Toyota Corolla Recovered in 30 Minutes by New Orleans Police Using LoJack

On January 12, 2012, the owner of a 2004 Toyota Corolla returned home for the evening and parked his Toyota outside of his residence in New Orleans, Louisiana. The owner later noticed that his keys were missing, and upon looking outside, he discovered that his Corolla was missing. He called and reported the auto theft to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). After all the pertinent information was gathered, NOPD entered the Corolla’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
24 minutes later, an officer with the NOPD received the silent homing signals from the stolen vehicle on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in his patrol car. The officer then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received confirmation that the signals were coming the Corolla reported stolen minutes earlier. Following the directional and signal strength information on the PTC, the officer located the Corolla, parked on a street in the St. Roch area of the city. The Corolla was recovered in good shape and impounded for safekeeping until the owner could be contacted.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the owner’s request in November 2003.
