2012 Nissan Altima Stolen One Day After LoJack Installation — Recovered Undamaged, Suspect Arrested

On January 22, 2012, the owner of a 2012 Nissan Altima loaned his brand-new vehicle to a friend’s relative to run an errand, but when it was not returned to him after several hours, he reported the vehicle stolen to the New Orleans Police Department. After gathering all of the pertinent information, New Orleans Police entered the Nissan’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, a couple of officers from the New Orleans Police Department on patrol received the silent LoJack signals from the stolen Nissan on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. The officers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received confirmation that the signals were coming from the Nissan Altima reported stolen earlier. Following the directional and signal strength information on the PTC, the officers located the Altima, parked in a school complex. The brand-new Nissan was recovered in great condition and returned to the owner. The police were able to locate the suspect and he was arrested on charges related to the auto theft.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the owner’s request in January 2012.
