2002 Dodge Caravan Stolen Overnight from Residence in Lawrence, MA — Quickly Recovered Using LoJack

On the evening of January 9, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Dodge Caravan parked her vehicle outside of her home in Lawrence, Massachusetts. When she returned for the vehicle the next morning, she found the minivan missing and immediately contacted hte Lawrence Police Department to report the theft.
The Lawrence Police took a stolen vehicle report and relayed the information to the department’s computer operator, who entered the Caravan’s VIN into the state and federal crime databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder hidden in the Dodge Caravan, causing it to begin transmitting a silent homing signal.
A short while later, officers from the Lawrence Police Department began picking up the silent LoJack signal on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. One of the officers started to receive a very strong signal in the area of Jackson Street. Folllowing the computer prompts, he was able to successfully track and quickly locate the unoccupied Caravan, parked on Kendrick Street. The officers quickly set up surveillance on the van, hoping a suspect(s) would return. However, after a couple of hours without any activity, they had the vehicle towed from the scene for safekeeping until the owner could be notified of the vehicle’s safe recovery.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Caravan at the owner’s request on June 15, 2002.
