Stolen Honda Accord Recovered 20 Minutes After Theft — NYPD Officers Arrest 1 Suspect

A 1995 Honda Accord was parked near the owner’s residence in the Soundview section of the Bronx on the afternoon of January 24, 2012; when the owner returned for it, he discovered it stolen, and immediately notified the NYPD’s 43rd Precinct of the theft.
After filing the stolen vehicle report, NYPD officers entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than twenty minutes later, detectives assigned to the Bronx DA’s Auto Squad and officers assigned to the 43rd precinct picked up the LoJack signal in their vehicles equipped with a police tracking computer. The officers tracked the signal and located the stolen Honda, unoccupied but running on Bruckner BBoulevard in the Bronx. The officers watched the vehicle for a few minutes before they observed a male exit a grocery store and enter the stolen vehicle. The officers surrounded the vehicle and immediately placed the suspect under arrest. The vehicle was impounded as arrest evidence and was eventually returned to a very happy owner.
