Florida Highway Patrol Troopers Recover Stolen Camry, Arrest Suspect, 1 Hour After Theft

On the afternoon of December 28th the owner of a 2001 Toyota Camry discovered that his vehicle was missing from the parking lot of his place of business, where he had parked it that morning. He immediately contacted the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft.
After completed a stolen vehicle report, Pasco County deputies had information about the stolen Camry entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJacks’ interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Approximately one hour later, a trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his department vehicle. Using the directional and signal strength indicators on his tracking computer, he determined that the Camry was being driven southbound on Interstate 75 in Tampa. After backup units arrived, officers executed a felony traffic stop and arrested the driver.
The Toyota Camry was recovered with ignition damage and returned to the very happy owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Camry at the owner’s request in June 2001.
