Nashville Police Track and Locate Stolen Mazda Using LoJack Vehicle Recovery System

On January 22 2012, the owner of a 2007 Mazda parked his vehicle in the parking lot of a dining establishment in Downtown Nashville. When he returned to his vehicle, he discovered it missing, and quickly reported the theft to the Metro Nashville Police Department. A stolen vehicle report was filed and the vehicle information was entered into state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mazda. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, while on routine patrol, a Patrol Unit from the Metro Police Department Central Sector began to receive the silent signal emitting from the Mazda’s LoJack unit. Following the directional cues of the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle, the officers quickly located the unoccupied Mazda. The vehicle was not damaged, and was transported to the Metro Nashville Police Department Tow In Lot for processing by the Crime Scene Unit.
The follow-up investigation is being conducted by the Metro Nashville Police Department Auto Theft Division.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery Ssytem was installed in the Mazda on September 1, 2009 at the owner’s request.
