Reno Police and Nevada Highway Patrol Recover Stolen Nissan Versa in Minutes Using LoJack

In the late afternoon of January 18, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Nissan Versa parked his vehicle at his place of business; when he returned to the spot early the following morning, he discovered the vehicle had been stolen. He immediately contacted the Reno Police Department to report the theft.
After completing a stolen vehicle report, the Reno Polic ehad the stolen Nissan’s vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Nissan. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Transponder because of LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than 10 minutes later, officers with the Reno Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol both began to receive the silent signal from the now-activated LoJack in the Nissan. The officers requested that their dispatch run the code appearing on their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC), and received a description of the stolen Nissan. Following the computer cues, the officers tracked the Nissan and quickly located the vehicle parked and abandoned in a motel parking lot in north Reno.
The Nissan Versa was recovered intact, wihout damage; the victim was contacted and respond to the scene to retrieve the vehicle.
