Nissan Murano Stolen TWICE in One Day in Long Beach — Suspect Claimed He Purchased the Vehicle for $5

In late January 2012, the owner of a 2005 Nissan Murano had a particularly difficult day with her vehicle, when it was stolen twice in 24 hours! Luckily for the owner, she had a LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed in the vehicle which quickly and easily recovered the Nissan after both thefts.
The first theft occurred on the evening of Thursday, January 19. Just 39 minutes after reporting the theft to the Long Beach Police Department, officers began to pick up the silent LoJack signal on their Police Tracking Computers. They tracked the Nissan into the City of Long Beach, where they observed the vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was in good condition but missing the spare keys; they called the victim and released the vehicle to her in the field.
At the same time the following day (January 20), the victim noticed that her vehicle had been stolen again, and again reported the theft to the Long Beach Police. Long Beach officers picked up the LoJack signal from the Nissan Murano and tracked it to an intersection in Long Beach, where they observed one male suspect driving her stolen vehicle. When requested back-up units arrived, the officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop, taking the suspect into custody. The suspect told officers that he bought the vehicle from someone he knew for five dollars (not a bad deal for a 2005 vehicle!). The suspect also had the missing spare keys to the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto and a variety of other charges. Long Beach Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
