Toyota Tundra Stolen with Keys & Vehicle Title Recovered in Less Than an Hour in Las Vegas

In the early evening hours of January 16, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Toyota Tundra discovered his truck missing from his home near the 7000 block of Mercurio in Las Vegas. The theft occurred with both the keys and the Nevada Title to the vehicle inside the Toyota. The owner immediately contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report the theft.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Tundra’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the truck.
Within minutes, officers’ with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Northeast Area Command” and Nevada Highway Patrol began picking up the silent LoJack signal from the Toyota Tundra with their LoJack-equipped patrol cars. Following the LoJack computer’s cues, the officers tracked the vehicle into the industrial neighborhood near the 3500 block of East Alexander, where they located the truck, hastily abandoned by the suspect(s).
“Without the LoJack Stolen (Vehicle Recovery) System, this stolen truck, with the Nevada Vehicle Title and keys would probably be shipped out of country”, said one Auto Theft Detective with the VIPER Task Force. He then added, “this owner is extremely lucky.”
The truck was recovered 53 minutes after being activated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, over 14 miles away from where it was stolen.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Tundra on 9/11/2007 by Centennial Toyota of Las Vegas.
