Texas Troopers Stop Stolen Toyota Tundra Pickup, Two Suspects Arrested

When the owners of the 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup discovered their vehicle had been stolen on January 3, 2012, they immediately filed a theft report with the Houston Police Department. After all the pertinent information was gathered, Houston Police entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated tracking of the vehicle.
Later that day, troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety received the silent homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. The troopers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system, and received confirmation that the signals were coming from the stolen Toyota Tundra. Following the directional cues on the PTC, the troopers quickly overtook the Tundra on a public roadway, and performed a felony stop. The driver and one passenger were taken into custody without incidence. The driver was charged with UUMV and the passenger charged with Criminal Trespass. The pickup was stored until the owner could be notified of the recovery.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the original owner’s request in May 2003.
