Texas Police Officers Quickly Recover Honda Civic Stolen in Houston

When the owner of a 2010 Honda Civic awoke on the morning of January 13, 2012, he discovered that his vehicle had been stolen, and immediately filed a theft report with the Houston Police Department. After all of the pertinent information was gathered, Houston Police entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated tracking of the vehicle.
Less than one hour later, officers from the Houston Police Department received the silent homing signals from the stolen Honda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. The officers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received confirmation that the signals were coming from the Honda reported stolen. Following the directional cues from the PTC, the officers quickly located the vehicle parked in an apartment parking lot. The vehicle was positioned in a manner that indicated the suspects were letting the vehicle “cool off” for a while to determine if the vehicle was equipped with LoJack. Officers observed the vehicle for a period of time and when no one returned, they recovered the Honda and called the owners to come to the location and claim the vehicle.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Civic at the original owner’s request in February 2010.
