Police Quickly Locate Stolen Honda Civic — Suspect Flees on Foot, but Leaves ID Behind

On the night of January 9, 2012, the owner of a 2000 Honda Civic EX contacted the King County Sheriff’s Office to report the vehicle stolen from the 11800 block of Renton Avenue South in Skyway.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Just fourteen minutes later, King County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other agencies received the silent LoJack signal transmitting from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computers in their patrol cars. Audio and visual cues on the LoJack Tracker display led them to the 1300 block of SW 147th Street in Burien. There, they located the Honda, abandoned, but warm to the touch. The deputies set up surveillance on the car, and less than one hour later, a male suspect climbed into the car and drove off. Deputies stopped the vehicle, and the driver fled on foot; however, he left his identification in the car. Charges are pending.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Civic in May of 2010 when it was purchased as a used vehicle.
