Jaguar "Taken for a Walk" Quickly Recovered by San Antonio Police

On January 19, 2012, the owners of a 2002 Jaguar discovered their keys missing and quickly determined that their vehicle had been stolen. They immediately contacted the San Antonio Police Depaertment to file a theft report.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Jaguar’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jaguar and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Less than ten minutes later, officers from the San Antonio Department received the silent homing signals from the stolen Jaguar on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. The officers then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received confirmation that the signals were coming from the stolen Jaguar. Following the directional cues on the PTC, the officers quickly located the vehicle parked and abandoned on a public street, with the keys in the ignition. Officers speculated that the suspect simply needed a mode of transportation and would not return for the vehicle. The owner was called to the location and the Jaguar was released into his custody.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Jaguar at the original owners request in October 2007.
