Tacoma Police Recover Stolen Saturn Ion in Less Than 3 Hours Using LoJack

On the evening of January 4, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Saturn Ion was inside an exercise facility located in the 7600 block of Hosmer in Tacoma when her vehicle was stolen. The victim immediately contacted the Tacoma Police Department to report the theft.
The Tacoma Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Saturn’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Saturn and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Less than three hours later, Tacoma Police Department officers received the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Saturn on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the audio and visual cues on the Tracking Computer, the officers located the abandoned Saturn in the 1400 block of E. 72nd Street in Tacoma.
The car did not appear to be damaged, but some items were missing from inside the vehicle. The Saturn was returned to the owner, who had installed the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System in the new vehicle when she purchased it.
