Portland Police Quickly Recover Stolen Mazda Equipped with LoJack

On January 9, 2012, a 2006 Mazda 6 was stolen from the 1500 block of SE 82nd in Portland. Attempts made by the owner to locate the vehicle delayed reporting the theft to the police; however, the Portland Police Bureau was eventually contacted and notified of the crime.
Portland Police prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Mazda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mazda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Later that afternoon, a Port of Portland Police Department officer received the silent LoJack transmitting from the stolen Mazda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. Following the audio and visual cues on the computer, the officer located the car in the 4500 block of NE Crystal Lane. The vehicle was not damaged.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mazda 6 in May of 2006 as part of a pre-install program, whereby the dealer protects their inventory before the cars are sold. This offers the customer a valuable accessory to protect their car from theft.
