Suspect Arrested at Bus Terminal After Police Track Stolen Malibu Using LoJack

While attending a party at a friend’s house on January 9, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu had his vehicle stolen by an acquaintance at the party. The owner immediately contacted the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department to report the theft.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Malibu’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Malibu and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Four minutes later, officers with the Phoenix Police Central City Precinct began picking up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Malibu on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, the officers tracked the LoJack signals to the bus terminal in the 2100 block of East Buckeye Road, where they located the parked Malibu. Through good police work, the officers were able to locate the suspect waiting to depart the station on a bus. Further questioning of the victim confirmed the suspect’s identity, and he was quickly arrested and booked into jail on auto theft charges.
The owner was happy they had LoJack installed in the Malibu and the police were able to track and recover the stolen veihcle so quickly. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed on this vehicle at the owners request in March 2005.
