PT Cruiser Stolen in Home Burglary Quickly Tracked and Recovered by Police Using LoJack

On the evening of January 9, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser returned home to discover his home burglarized and his vehicle stolen. The owner quickly contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report the burglary.
Phoenix Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Chrysler’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the PT Cruiser and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Three minutes later, officers with the Phoenix Police Mountain View Precinct began picking up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Chrysler on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, the officers tracked the LoJack signals to an apartment parking lot in the 15800 block of N. 32th Street, where they observed the stolen PT Cruiser parked in the lot. Officers were not able to locate any suspects at the scene, but recovered the vehicle and contacted the victim to come to retrieve it.
The owner was happy that they had LoJack installed in the PT Cruiser and were able to get it back so quickly. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Chrysler PT Cruiser at the owner’s request in August 2001.
