2007 Mercedes Stolen in New Orleans Recovered in San Antonio, TX

The owner of a 2007 Mercedes was confined to the hospital for a period of time; when he was discharged and returned to his residence in New Orleans on December 8, 2011, he discovered that his vehicle had been stolen. He immediately called and reported the auto theft to the New Orleans Police Department.
New Orleans Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Mercedes’ information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mercedes and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Five hours later, a trooper with the Texas DPS in San Antonio, Texas, received the silent homing signals from the stolen Mercedes on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in his patrol car. The trooper then queried the LoJack “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC display screens with the police stolen vehicle computer system and received positive confirmation that the signals were coming from the Mercedes stolen in New Orleans. Following the computer’s cues, the trooper tracked the signal and located the Mercedes-Benz S550 in a parking lot of an apartment complex in San Antonio. The police recovered the vehicle and impounded it for safekeeping until the owner could come to Texas to retrieve it.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mercedes-Benz S550 at the owner’s request in May 2009.
