One Suspect Arrested for Theft of Chevrolet Equinox in Virginia Beach, Vehicle Recovered Undamaged

On January 4, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox contacted the Virginia Beach Police Department to report that the vehicle had been stolen from the 600 block of Pleasant Hall Drive in Virginia Beach.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Equinox’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Equinox and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short time later, patrol officers in Norfolk, Virginia received the Equinox’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol units. Folllowing the directional and audible signal of LoJack, officers tracked the stolen Equinox to the 6500 block of Wailes Avenue in Norfolk, where they observed the vehicle driven by the theft suspect. Officers were able to stop the vehicle without incident, and take the suspect into custody. The undamaged Equinox was then recovered by police.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Chevrolet Equinox at the new car buyer’s request in June 2005.
