Jeep Liberty Stolen and Recovered in Cleveland in Less Than Two Hours

On December 5, 2011, the owners of a 2002 Jeep Liberty contacted the Cleveland Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from their residence.
Cleveland Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Jeep’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jeep and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short while later, several law enforcement agencies in eastern Cuyahoga County received the Jeep’s silent LoJack silent on their their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computers. Taking directions from the computer, officers with the Cleveland Police tracked and located the stolen Jeep parked behind an abandoned residence in Cleveland. The suspects were most likely letting the Jeep “cool off”. The Jeep was impounded and later returned to the owner.
Because of the quick recovery the Jeep had only minor damage to the ignition. The suspects did not have enough time to strip the vehicle or use it to commit any other crimes.
The owner was very happy that the original owner had LoJack installed when they purchased the Jeep from Colonial Toyota in October 2005.
