Stolen Honda Civic Stolen from the Street in Queens, NY Recovered in Hours with No Damage

On January 10, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Honda Civic parked and loacked her vehicle on the street where she works in Bayside Queens. When she returned that evening, she discovered the vehicle missing and immediately contacted the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) 111th Precinct to report the theft.
NYPD officers responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Less than two hours later, the Police of the Queens North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their vehicles. Following the computer cues, they tracked the Honda to a commercial area of the Maspeth section of Queens, confines of the 108 precinct, where they located the parked vehicle. The officers set up surveillance on the vehicle for several hours, but when no one returned for it, they took the undamaged vehicle into custody. The owner was notified and she was elated to know that her vehicle was recovered so quickly, especially with no damage.
