Reno Police Using LoJack Recover Stolen Honda CRV in Minutes

On the afternoon of January 5, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Honda CRV went to leave work, only to discover that his vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot where he left it earlier. The victim immediately contacted the Reno Police Department to report the theft.
Reno Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen CRV’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Less than 15 minutes later, officers with the Reno Police Department and a deputy with Story County Sheriff’s Department, who happened to be in Reno on business, began to receive the silent signal from the LoJack transponder in the Honda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer cues, the officers tracked the stolen Honda to the 3rd floor of the parking structure at the Renown Regional Medical Center.
The officers had the unoccupied vehicle towed and stored for safekeeping until it could be released to the owner. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda CRV by Bill Pearce Honda in June 2010.
