Police in Oklahoma City Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla and Arrest One Suspect

On January 7, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Toyota Corolla 4-door discovered the vehicle missing and contacted the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department to report the theft.
The reporting officer responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short while later, a deputy with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. After obtaining a complete description of the stolen Toyota, the deputy followed the signal to the area of the 2000 block of NW 28th in Oklahoma City. There, the deputy located the stolen Toyota, unoccupied and parked at a residence. Additional deputies responded to the scene and surveillance was maintained on the vehicle. Soon, an individual exited a nearby residence and proceeded to enter the vehicle; the suspect was quickly taken into custody. The Toyota was subsequently recovered and returned to the grateful owner.
