On January 4, 201 the owner of a 2006 Honda CRV reported her vehicle stolen to the Memphis Police Department.

Memphis Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.

On January 5, 2012 shortly before noon, a patrol unit from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department began to receive the silent signal transmitting from the LoJack in the stolen Honda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle.. Only minutes later, the vehicle was located. It was not occupied at the time, so the deputies established surveillance in an effort to identify and apprehend any suspects. After a period of time with no activity, the vehicle was recovered and taken into police custody. The follow up investigation is being conducted by the Memphis Police Department Auto Theft Division.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda CRV on August 3, 2006 at the owner’s request.
