The owner of a BMW 325i in Austin, TX, made a mistake that many car owners do- he left his valet key inside the car. When thieves broke in hoping to steal the auto’s contents, they found the key and took the whole vehicle instead. The crooks didn’t know that the 325i was protected with the LoJack® system, which helped law enforcement recover it later that same day.

On April 18th, 2014, the BMW’s owners reported the crime to the Austin Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the 325i, which was installed at South Bay BMW in Torrance, CA.

A short while later, officers from the Austin PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The BMW was located at an apartment complex, where it was found parked and abandoned. The 325i was retrieved and soon returned to its appreciative owner.
