Ohio State Highway Patrol and Cleveland Police Recover Stolen 2013 Kubota BX25 Backhoe with Help from the LoJack® System

Construction equipment is a very popular target for thieves. The Ohio-based victims in this case were well aware of this unfortunate fact, and that is why they protected their 2013 Kubota BX25 Backhoe with the LoJack® system. Local law enforcement recovered the machine the same day it was stolen, even though it was hidden in a building.

On April 5th, 2014, the Kubota’s owners contacted the Brooklyn, OH Police to report that the machines, and the trailer it was on, were stolen from their business. Officers verified the theft and entered the equipment information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the backhoe.

A short while later, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and officers with the Cleveland Police Department picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Kubota and its trailer were located inside a commercial building in Cleveland, along with a generator stolen in a separate incident. The backhoe, valued at $15,000, and its trailer were retrieved and soon returned to the business. Further investigation is ongoing.
