The LoJack® System Helps Illinois State Troopers and Chicago Police Recover Stolen Pontiac Montana in 39 Minutes

Counterfeit currency is sometimes referred to as “funny money”, but the Maryland-based owner of a Pontiac Montana probably didn’t see any humor when he sold his minivan to a buyer who paid with bogus bills. The LoJack® system that he had installed when he purchased the vehicle proved to be a true asset by helping local police recover the Montana in less than an hour after activation.

On February 13th, 2014, the Pontiac’s owners contacted Arlington Heights Police to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into NCIC, state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Montana, which was installed at Enterprise Car Sales in Chicago, IL.

Less than an hour later, an Illinois State Police (ISP) sergeant on the picked up the signal from the stolen minivan on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. He located the Pontiac parked illegally on West Harrison Street on Chicago’s west side. The sergeant observed two occupants in the vehicle and requested backup from Chicago PD. Both suspects were taken into custody. The undamaged Montana was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
