The owner of a Toyota Corolla was dropping off donations at a charity in Pompano Beach, FL and left her vehicle unlocked and running. While she was inside, a bicyclist rode up to her car, dropped his bike, jumped in and drove away. Thanks to the LoJack® system that was installed when the Corolla was purchased, it took local law enforcement less than a half hour after activation to recover it.

On February 6th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report her vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit, and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Al Hendrickson Toyota in Coconut Creek, FL.

Just a few minutes later, a BCSO helicopter unit picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on its on-board LoJack tracking computer. Ground officers also received the signal and soon found the Toyota being driven. They performed a traffic stop and arrested the driver. The Corolla was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
