The owner of a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo in Sunrise, FL, knew who had stolen his station wagon and reported the theft to local law enforcement right away. The LoJack® system does not differentiate between a total stranger and a once-trusted friend. No matter who took the car, whether they have the key in the ignition or it was hotwired, LoJack helps police locate the stolen vehicle quickly and safely. In this case, the Aveo was found in less than 90 minutes.

On November 18th, 2013, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Sunrise Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Aveo, which was installed at Ed Morse Chevy Sawgrass in Sunrise, FL.

Later that morning, a Coral Springs PD auto theft detective picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer in his patrol vehicle. The auto theft detective located the Chevy in the parking lot of an apartment complex. After a brief surveillance, a subject who appeared to match the description of the suspect entered an adjacent vehicle. Officers topped the other car and the suspect admitted stealing the station wagon. She was taken into custody and the Aveo was soon returned to its grateful owner.
