The Seattle, WA resident in this case had protected his customized Honda Accord with a ‘kill switch’ to thwart car thieves, so it was a surprise when he found his car missing from his residence one recent Thursday. This owner also had the LoJack® system installed in his car, so local police were able to recover it in just a half hour after activation.

On November 21st, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Seattle Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Accord, which was installed at Herb Chambers Honda in Boston, MA.

A short while later, a King County Sheriff’s Office flight crew received the homing signal transmitting from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The flight crew directed Seattle PD officers to the Honda, which was parked and abandoned on South 113th Street.  The undamaged Accord was soon returned to its grateful owner, who told police it was the third time the car had been stolen and recovered using LoJack.
