The victims in our next story were shopping in a mall in Anaheim, CA, and when they decided to leave they discovered their Chevrolet Avalanche was missing. Luckily, they had decided to have the LoJack® system installed when they purchased their SUV, which turned out to be a smart purchase. Their local police, assisted by LoJack, were able to recover their vehicle in just four hours after activation.

On November 18th, 2013, the Chevy’s owners contacted the Anaheim Police to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Avalanche, which was installed at Cormier Chevrolet in Long Beach, CA.

A short while later, air and ground officers with the Anaheim PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles and airships.  The officers tracked the Chevy to a nearby street and found it parked and unoccupied. After a brief surveillance, a suspicious vehicle stopped next to the Avalanche and a passenger got into the driver’s seat.  Both vehicles drove away, but a traffic stop was quickly set up. The driver of the stolen SUV and the three occupants of the other vehicle were all taken into custody. The Avalanche was soon returned to its grateful owner.
