Imagine looking outside your window just before midnight and finding out your vehicle was not where you left it. This happened to a woman in Newark, NJ, on a recent Saturday night when her Toyota Camry was stolen. This victim did have one major factor in her favor- she had the LoJack® system installed when she bought her car, so local police, with LoJack’s help, were able to recover it in less than four hours after activation.

On November 16th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Newark Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Route 1 Toyota in Avenel, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Irvington PD picked up the homing signals coming from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the Toyota traveling on Springfield Ave. A traffic stop was initiated and 2 male suspects were taken into custody. The undamaged Camry was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
